Dragon-Owned Business: Oceans 5 Dive Resort

Can you tell us about Oceans 5 Dive Resort? And what was the moment that made you realize you had to make it happen?

I have been diving since the late 1980s/early 1990s, always as a hobby next to my actual consulting work. I got the opportunity to start up a dive center/resort with my business partner, and we have not looked back since.

What has been the most challenging part of running your business? 

That lovely Indonesian bureaucracy, lol.

What has been the most exciting or surprising part?

Since starting in 2010 as a dive center and resort, we have managed to grow it into a well-known business where we can train people for all different levels: recreational divers, professionals, dive specialties, conservation, technical diving, etc.

What values or lessons from your JIS experience have helped you navigate the business world? Which “Dragon Trait” do you still use today?

Patience and determination.

What was your favorite place on the JIS campus?

It was actually off-campus, it was called “the toko”… lol

What book or podcast are you reading/listening to right now?

I'm reading a book called "The Kremlin Whisperer", about the Putin regime and everything related.
