Spotlight

Dino Vega (Class of 1980) was most recently appointed Alternate Chair of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) at September’s ASEAN Summit, at which 30 of the region's most significant corporate leaders gathered to advise on national and international economic policy and trade agreements. He is also the star of the latest in our JIS Podcast series!

He says his origins and his whole family’s long association with JIS helped shape the successful ASEAN discussions. Sharing with us after the summit, he said: “First, I think growing up in a multicultural environment like JIS has helped me understand other cultures and communities in finding common goals. Also, understanding the importance of community service early, I think has helped me develop values and skill sets that have allowed me to be a more effective member of the team.

"Our ASEAN-BAC theme this year was the idea that an economic community remains strong if it ‘leaves nobody behind’. We have introduced initiatives and programs that specifically target micro and what I call ‘nano-preneurs’.”

We were delighted when Dino agreed to be our featured JIS Podcast guest, and in this exclusive interview with our new Chief Advancement Officer, Emma Silva, you can hear both the full story of the ASEAN summit and also Dino’s unique perspective as a “JIS Lifer”, growing up as a “reverse third-culture kid”, and how he considers both experiences to have given him a great advantage in his successful career.

Listen along to our podcast as Dino takes Emma on a wistful trip down memory lane, recalling with fondness his days as a young Dragon at the Pattimura campus, the lessons that have stayed with him to this day, and reconnecting with his classmates many years later.

Grab a coffee and listen to Dino Vega share his stories, advice, and insights for Alumni and JIS students.
