After graduating from Harvard University with a degree in computer science, Manuela Penenory is stepping into an exciting future! Yet, at the top of her list was coming "home" as she begins this next chapter of her journey.
We were delighted to reconnect with Manuela, a proud member of the Class of 2020, as she returned to the Cilandak campus for a nostalgic walk down memory lane after four years away at university.
Four years may not seem long to most, but for Manuela, a JIS “lifer” from Early Years through Grade 12, the visit brought back a treasure trove of indelible memories. From Uniting Nations Day and service-learning projects to rewarding learning opportunities and much more, she still keeps her time here close to her heart.
“JIS is a part of my identity. A lot of who I am I attribute to JIS and the opportunities it has given me.”
She also had the chance to meet with JIS Head of School Maya Nelson and Service Learning and Community Coordinator Fanny Sinanoe, both of whom celebrated her post-JIS achievements while reminiscing about her time as a student.
Manuela is now working as a software engineer in Boston, with aspirations to use her skills to advance public health initiatives. And Indonesia remains close to her heart. Reflecting on her connection to her second home, she shared, “Something is calling me back.”
Hear more from Manuela and what she has to say about her JIS journey and future aspirations in our full video interview!
